Sweet Marjoram
Sweet marjoram is a tender perennial herb or shrub with leaves that taste of sweet pine and citrus. it is a close relative of oregano but differs widely in aroma. Its perfumey fragrance makes it ideal in herb mixes such as Herbes de Provence as well as for soaps, shampoos and cosmetics. Marjoram figures prominently in German cuisine, most notably in sausages and potato soup. Italians also use marjoram in sweet spinach fritters and chicken stuffing. The herb is also a pleasant addition to teas when paired with mint and lemon balm and is considered to have antiseptic qualities.
Sweet Marjoram
This pale green, bushy plant will spread readily if the tops are pinched out when young. Sow seed uncovered in the spring. Pull the whole plant up in fall and hang to dry or pot some up to grow on a windowsill all winter.
